There is a reason. Actually several. Rarely do you go backwards, and then only for a short time and for a specific reason.
If you are driving backwards for a long period of time it is typically because something has gone terribly wrong.
Recently a friend was forced to drive in reverse for almost a block and half in downtown traffic because his transmission was dying (died).
What is before you is more important than behind.
What is behind has value and a measure of importance. It is good to look back and remember. There are lessons to be learned.
However, living in the past is not healthy. With no forward look overall health breaks down because there is no will to live — no desire to see what tomorrow brings.
Philippians 3: 13a – 14
Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Spiritually speaking — what lies ahead of you?
Are your best days still ahead?
I recently had a conversation about a new ministry opportunity with someone from my past. They were part a small group instrumental in my being dismissed from a job over 15 years ago. Looking back — probably somewhat rightly so.
I have moved on. All he wanted to do was rehash the old issues rather than discuss where things were going in the present.
I asked him point blank, “Are you the same man you were back then?” Surprisingly he responded — “Essentially, yes, I am.”
And there boys and girls lies the problem……
He’s driving in reverse and wondering why everything is so difficult.
