There is a polish proverb that states:
Not my circus. Not my monkeys.
In other words: don’t blame me, not my fault, this isn’t my problem…
It can be an appropriate response. Unfortunately we live in a society that survives on this philosophy. Personal responsibility is not often discussed.
More to the point we rarely talk about sin.
Instead we “make mistakes” “mis-speak” “have a lapse in judgement”.
The reality is — we sin. We know what is right and don’t do it. We know what is right and choose otherwise. We plan for weeks and make reservations for our “mistake”.
We hope the cops don’t find our “judgement laspe” under the car seat.
We are all sinners. Recognizing and confessing this fact is a major step toward grace.
I willfully screw up my life — Lord please take over by way of the Holy Spirit and make me a non-sinner. Change my thought processes. Change my heart.
