How would describe or define what becoming or being a disciple means in simple terms?
The simplest definition is to say one is a follower, or a student. But we need a bit more than that.
I like an outline that Randy Frazee (Oak Hills Church, San Antonio, TX) uses:
Thinking like Christ is the process of learning and the basics of Christian Doctrine. Who is God? What is Sin? How does sin affect us? Where do we stand in light of who God is? Questions like these.
Acting like Christ is the change in behavior to imitate Christ and His life. We pray, we read scripture, we meditate, we have fellowship with others and so one. The basic Christian disciplines come into play at this stage.
Being like Christ is the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Things such as love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5 gives us a great contrast of life in the Spirit and outside the Spirit. We learn to love as He loved. We become committed to the things he was such as compassion, mercy and desire to bring the lost to God.
